In 2016 a group of Broadway actors and activists joined together to answer a question: “How can the arts play a more meaningful role in creating a just world?” Frustrated by both the country's and theater industry's response - or lack thereof - to the nation's pandemic of racism, those "artivists" sensed a different strategy was needed to tackle today's most pressing issues. That impulse grew into the Broadway Advocacy Coalition: a boundary-pushing advocacy nonprofit utilizing workshops, coalition building, leadership development, and Impact Projects to create more humane policies.
Broadway Advocacy Coalition (BAC) has since grown into a Tony Award-winning organization that convenes artists, change leaders, and individuals impacted by systemic racism and oppression to build the capacity and coalitions that fuel systemic change.
